Twelfth Night - Epiphany Eve
A wise theologian once said,
To know the story of The Nativity
is to understand the gospels in miniature
________
The light of a star
a telltale of who we are
like the Magi, it too has traveled far
To shine down on creation
to shine down on a child
who lays in a trough
a metaphor for all
for he is food for the world
Residing with the sheep and shepherds
the stench of which would find us repulsed
but the child draws them near
Born in the darkness, the dead of winter
No room at the Inn, echoes of the homeless
Born into a realm of
utter dependency
so vastly vulnerable
yet the child just smiles
later he will cry
A light emanates from the manger
for he will be the light of the world
the light in the darkness
He will be our guide through all the days and nights
in the archetypal journey that we call life
and in that walk, his stance was nonviolent,
always vulnerable, all the way to the cross
God almighty? Think again
look to the manger
then gaze at the cross
God all vulnerable...
The true character of a loving God
He is in it all,
He is in it with us
